Mapping and the power of the crowd: Peace Corps’ response to disaster in Vanuatu

I wanted to share this excellent piece on how Peace Corps Volunteers are making a difference using Open Street Map. This gives you an idea of not only how important good quality maps are to underserved communities, but how much you can do with them as well. On Monday, March 23, I co-hosted the first introduction of mapping in my community. The response from the community has been extremely enthusiastic and on Saturday, April 18, we’ll host our first Mapping Party, which will organize participants to improve the baseline mapping of Nueva Guinea using the satellite imagery provided by the MapGive.
